What are some good fictional books from the 20th century?

I just realized that almost all of my favorite books were written in the 1800's. What good fiction books would you recommend from the 1900's?

What are some good fictional books from the 20th century?
the classic ones:

the great gatsby by f. scott fitzgerald (and the rest of his books)

of mice and men by john steinbeck

brave new world by aldous huxley

1984 by george orwell

lolita by vladimir nabokov

brideshead revisited by evelyn waugh

so many good ones. some people might suggest to kill a mockingbird but the first part is as visually evoking as a brick and someone who only writes one novel and has no excuse not to write another one suggests they've taken a different career path...
Reply:Depends on what genre's you are looking for for the enjoyment of the reading. So many books that were great, so many that were good and so many that were just mediocre. The 1900's up until 2000 was the age of writers. More people to write good fiction and sooooo many more to read them too.
Reply:try gabriel garcia marquez
Reply:Books from Eoin Colfer; (e.g. The Artemis Fowl Series)
Reply:Shadows Fall by Simon Green, Virtual Girl by Amy Thomson, Naked came the Sasquatch by John Boston, all Harry Dresden series by Jim Butcher, all Jefferson Swycaffer books, pirate romances by Darlene Marshall, Hostage by Crais, I am Legend by Matheson.
Reply:Ham on Rye - Charles Bukowski

Cat's Cradle - Kurt Vonnegut

A Canticle for Leibowitz - Arthur Miller
Reply:What do you like to read?

Many great books were written in the 20th century.

Marcel Proust "A la recherche du temps perdu" "Looking for lost time"( I don't know if it's the real English title.)

This novel is very long (7 books), and there is no story. Don't try to read it from the beginning to the end. Open any book, read one hundred pages and enjoy!

John Dos Passos: "Manhattan transfer" Great!

Truman Capote.

Short stories by Dino Buzzati.

"Pornography" by Gombrowicz

William Faulkner: "As I lay dying","Pylone", etc...

More light:

"The lord of the rings", by Tolkien.

Etc.

I forgot John Irving!

"The world according to Garp" and "Hotel New Hampshire" are, for me, his best novels
Reply:Mark Twain, William Faulkner, Hemingway, Kate Chopin, Poe, Hawthorne, Fitzgerald, Margaret Atwood, Toni Morrison, John Steinbeck, Kerouac, Vonnegut, Kesey, Capote, Nabokov, ... there are just so many.
