How do you choose your books?

I'm just curious, how do you choose books?

I mean, do you only read books suggested to you? Or just famous books? Or do you run over to Borders and grab some random book?

I'm just curious to see how people get their books. Usually, I read a book someone suggests to me, but every once in a while I'll go to the library or a book store and just get an interesting-looking book and read the first few pages.

But what do you do?

How do you choose your books?
Generally, I find a book that I really like (usually a gift or something I've seen at the library) and from there, I visit Amazon.com and they have a list of books similar to the one I've read. I then check the book and see if it looks good. With that being said, I'm also guilty of just spending an afternoon in Borders, looking at titles and reading the first few pages.

Off topic possibly, but are you looking for any books currently? If so, feel free to email me with a few more specifics, and I'd be more than happy to suggest some. I'm quite the reader, haha!
Reply:I usually read books by authors I know I like, but there is the odd time I will be in the book store and pick up a new author. I tend to choose books I think I might actually read, like if the story on the back of the book catches my interest I will probably check it out.
Reply:hmm... i usually read books suggested to me, but often enough i'll head down to the library or book store and find a book that sounds cool and read it. i also like to read books that not many people have read because a lot of times they have the most interesting stories. sometimes i get books as gifts and i read those... other than that, mostly just ones i think sound like something that would interest me.

You tell them books you like and they will come up with some good suggestions for your next read.
Reply:I do all of them as long as they sound interesting. :)
Reply:I do the same thing as you do.
Reply:okay so this is in the order of which i choose my books (like #1 is the most often way i choose my books, and so on)

1) I pick an interesting book off the shelf, read the summary and decide if I want it or not.

2) I get a recommendation from a friend or someone I know, whatever.

3) I pick a popular/ famous book.

(:
Reply:Hmm as for buying books, I just grab a random book I think is interesting and wait till it is on sale.

For the library, I scan the book shelves and find a good title. Also I pick random books and look at the back and if I think its good, it's chosen =)
Reply:radnom kinda, suggested sometimes, or i steal what m friends are reading, mostly from silamr books to ones i like thouhg. ^_^
Reply:I know this sounds weird but I've been known to sit down on the floor in Chapters (the Canadian version of borders) and read the back of every book on the shelf then work my way up. I like all kinds of books but I like to pick my own.

When I'm in a hurry, I go online to Chapters.ca, search the name of my favorite books and look at the 'if you liked this book, you'll love ...' part.
Reply:I rarely read suggested books, my taste differs mightily from anyone else I know. I will of course read the popular favorites like King, Koontz, Grisham, Roberts, Steele, and Higgins-Clark. I do like to hunt down classics like of mice and men etc..., but I will generally just gather books with interesting covers, and randomly pick 2-3 pages to read to see if the authors style will irritate me(I hate ridiculously descriptive narratives). If it does not bother me and keeps my interest, I will check it out or buy it.
Reply:I usually just browse around and read the backs of books and see if it sounds interesting or not. It's usually the best way to know if you like a book rather than something someone else has suggested because you know what you like. I usually check out books that are recommended or in the top 20 list at whatever book store i am going to. Sometimes if i know what category of book i am i looking for then I will just go and grab a book in that section. Makes for interesting reading sometimes if you dont know what you're getting into.
Reply:well usually i get books from ones that my friends have read and have recommended me to read. i also will see if they have things like "new york time's best seller's list" or something like that. and also, if it relates to genres that i like, ie fantasy, adventure, and romance.
Reply:I choose my books randomly. I use to choose them based on what people would suggest but then I realized I wasnt that interested. So then I started going to borders daily (to get coffee) and decided to roam around the romance section. To my suprise I found the author J.R Ward. I got really into her books, by the time I knew it I read all the books in her series. So I started looking for a new author with similar things as the the BDB series. I found Sherrilyn Kenyon's Dark-Hunter, I fell I love, read those and now I'm reading Linsay Sands', The Argeneau series.

whoa, way off topic. I guess I chose my books randomly based on what I'm into. Except every once in a while I randomly go to book sales at librarys and buy books just because it "looks" interesting, then it sits on my shelf collecting dust. lol, and I never read them until I have no money to buy new books or the series I'm currently reading doesn't have it's new book out yet. lol!
