Can anyone recommend good scary/creepy books or physiologically challenging books?
anything by Stephen King, but i definitely recommend The Stand
Reply:Check out Patrick McGrath. He's amazing. He's a contemporary writer, very literary, psychological, and creepy. Ian McEwan has a lot of great stuff in that vein as well, particularly his earlier works. I especially recommend Asylum by Patrick McGrath and The Comfort of Strangers by Ian McEwan.
Reply:the Historian is a great book, it's like a travel guide across Europe and a creepy vampire book.
Reply:I think the best horror author for you would be Richard Matheson. He's an excellent writer and many of his books and short stories have been made into movies.

For example: The forthcoming will smith movie "I Am Legend". Many Many Twilight Zone episodes, Remember Steven Spielberg's "Duel", The Legend of Hell House, Trilogy of terror, The Incredible Shrinking Man (etc etc. There's so many.

Check out a book of his short stories first and you'll be addicted.

-Dracula by Bram Stoker

-Frankenstein by Mary Shelley

-The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux

-The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde

-The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

-The Fall of the House of Usher by Edgar Allan Poe (or any of his like The Pit and the Pendulum; The Cask of Amontillado; The Raven; The Tell-Tale Heart; The Murders at the Rue Morgue and others)
