What are some good books with excellent literary content for a thirteen year old?

I'm thirteen and absolutely love to read, but most books for my age are just garbage.

Can you help me find some good books?

What are some good books with excellent literary content for a thirteen year old?
If you tried the series books for your age group such as Nancy Drew, Little House on the Prairie, Boxcar Children, etc. then you might want to try reading classics. At your age that is what I was reading.

I know you may "think" they sound boring and are just the books your teachers try to make you read, but honestly they are considered classics for a reason.

Some authors you might consider are: Dickens, the Bronte Sisters, Mark Twain, Robert Louis Stevenson, James Fenimore Cooper etc. There are also classics that have been adapted for young readers.

Or check these websites for more examples:

Reply:I have always loved to read, here are some of my favorites when I was about your age.

A Wrinkle in Time

The Iliad and the Odyssey

Piers Anthony's Xanth series (fun reads more than literary content)

Red badge of courage

Where the red fern grows

My side of the mountain

The secret garden
Reply:the "Twilight" series by Stephenie Meyer

"Monster"

"To Kill a Mockingbird"

"Anne Frank"

"Stargirl"

"Good Earth"

"KINGDOM Keepers" (GOOD BOOK)
Reply:Twilight, The Bartimaeus Trilogy, Maximum Ride, Tithe, Valiant, Ironside, Vampire Academy..
Reply:I recommend the Pendragon series or the golden compass. It All depends on what kind of things they like. Like action or fantasy. Both the recommendations are fantasy but very good.
Reply:I loved the classics such as Little Women, Heidi, Swiss Family Robinson and Black Beauty.

Nowadays there's Harry Potter of course and Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl books are really good.

Have you read To Kill a Mockingbird? It's an excellent book.

I'd ask your local librarian for some books for you that aren't kid books but are "acceptable" for your age (i.e. no sex, violence but more advanced subjects)
Reply:Tyr books written by edgar allen poe great writting interesting and it will broden your vocabulary exponetially
Reply:anything by douglas adams, my personal favorite was dirk gently's holistic detective agency, another one of my favorite books is do androids dream of electric sheep, kirt vonnegut has some good ones as well, i am currently reading cats cradle, its interesting. i also suggest to start to read things like emmerson or thoreau, some of the essays use an older english but if you can get by that they are quite thought provoking, also its fun to look up the words you dont know, having an interesting vocabulary can be quite fun :D
Reply:try reading books that are for older people that what i did
Reply:im 13 and i hate reading lol but the best books ive ever read were eragon(the movie sucked) and eldest
Reply:Try reading "The Bully of Barkingham Street". It's a good book by Barbara Parks.
Reply:Have you tried the classics? I still enjoy Mark Twain and Jules Verne.
Reply:how about Harry potter... yeah i know its a stupid idea but i gots nothing else
Reply:If you're a female and like fantasy books I would recommend books by Tamora Pierce. Hope that helped
Reply:War of the Worlds

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Journey to the Center of the Earth

Tales of Mystery and Terror

Little Women

Frankenstein

Oliver Twist
Reply:You should read books by Christopher Buckley. He writes really funny books about politics. My favorite is Thank You For Smoking(the movie was good too). also, he wrote Little Green Men and No Way To Treat A First Lady. If you're into politics or government they're perfect.

You should also try reading non-fiction books that'll help you learn more about our everyday lives. The Wal-Mart Effect is really good, it shows you how Walmart works and affects almost the whole world. Don't Eat This Book is a good book to find out more about McDonalds and the whole "supersize me" fad.

And of course make sure you've read the classics. Little Women is an amazing book. Fahrenheit 451 is a must for anyone who loves to read. and The Big Friendly Giant and The Phantom Tollbooth are children's books that even adults should read.

I hope I helped and have fun reading!
Reply:how bout harry potter
Reply:Hmmm, well I'm 11, but teachers say that I have the reading level/comprihension of a 13/14 year-old, so, yeah. Some books that I would suggest are:

Gilda Joyce: Physic Investigator

Flipped

Stargirl

God Are You There? It's Me, Margaret By Judy Blume
