What to do with old unwanted paperback books?

I have some old paperback books that I do not want anymore, and they are in my opinion, "worthless." Like, California travel guide books from 1996, "Compuserve for Dummies" c. 1994. I was raised that books are sacred, but I sure need to free up some bookshelf space, and wonder is it okay to just put these in the recycle bin? Would it be morally bad to dump books in the recycle bin?

You could recycle or offer them to a nearby hospital, homeless center, college, etc. Think of it this way, recycling is giving them a chance to do some good.
Reply:Pass them on. Leave them in train or bus stations/bus stops. Waiting rooms. Recycle the ones that are hopelessly outdated.
Reply:Any thrift store will take old paperback books and sell them. A good donation for you and you have cleared your space.
Reply:Put them in the recycling bin. It sounds like these books will never be used again.
Reply:I'd take them to the hospital, or cancer center in your area. Believe me it will be greatly appreciated. Also convalescent homes have alot of residents who love to read. I wouldn't dump them in a recycle bin. Hope this helps you.

I use it to get rid books I don't want anymore for books I do want. It's fun, free, and easy!

Please tell them bluestar referred you. :)
Reply:Your local library might take them to use in their book sales.

It is amazing what people buy at these sales.
Reply:donate them to ur local library, hospital, or retirement home. my library has a "book swap" bin where u can put in anything that u dont want.
Reply:Give them to Goodwill, Salvation Army, sell them to half-price books. Put them in a box in your driveway that says "free books". Throw them in the garbage disposal. Try to sell them on Ebay. Whatever.
Reply:Recycle them definitely. Those books are obselet - you are not doing anyone any favours by giving them away. I would agree with those other answers if they were novels but computer books from the 90s? Travel books from the 90s? No way, no-one wants those.
