My cat has been spraying against books in a bookcase. Any ideas for getting the smell out?

I've read that metholated spirits can work (use it to clean the ones with glossy covers, maybe?) or bury them in lots of bicarb soda? throw them out because it's lost cause? They're precious 'art' books, so I'd like to try to salvage them somehow.

I had to throw away a collection of Drum Music Books due to this lovely problem

You may be able to salvage some of them but it's not fun

1/2 Metho 1/2 Water in a spray bottle is a good general cleaner for anything including Books
Reply:If its paper and it wasnt covered in some plastic or some kind of "shield" then i dont think they can be saved :(

For the book case or other places, If you can find a product called Diaper Pure for soaking baby's diapers this works the best. Mix a mixture of this with water, pour it on the spot and shop vac or soak it up. It neutralizes the smell. I saved a carpet this way. Oxyclean works as well but not as well.
Reply:Goto your local pet supply store and purchase:

NATURE'S MIRACLE

-just for cats-

Stain %26amp; Ordor Remover

Take the books out of the bookcase. Wash the book case with soap and water...rinse well. spray the Nature's Miracle on the book case and allow to dry.

While that is drying take your books and spray them with the Nature's Miracle also, and place the on newspaper to dry.

If your cat also got this on the carpet or floor---treat as above as well. This will do the trick for you.

You may need to reapply once or twice. But the MOST important thing is to train him not to do this behavior or have him fixed.

Good Luck
Reply:Try OdoBan. We have a cat and 2 dogs and we use it a lot.
Reply:throw out the books %26amp; desex the boy immediately.
