Can anyone remember those books where the reader decides what happens next?

For example at the end of a chapter or an important event, the reader would get the option to chose what happened in the story by turning to a specific page number. I loved these books as a kid!! What on earth were they called?

Can anyone remember those books where the reader decides what happens next?
I loved those, too! I think they were called "Choose your own Adventure" maybe....I'm gonna have to go look now.

Here they are: www.cyoa.com
Reply:I used to read those Goosebumps...don't know any other books...
Reply:they had that style in some of the later goosebumps series. they were so much fun, i remember my books always had a million bookmarks in them!
Reply:Choose Your Own Adventures

I loved those. I wish they still published books like them. Not only were they good, but they encouraged you to read a book over and over again to get to the next conclusion. I've been making a little collection for my kids, but it's not so easy to find them in the local book shoppes anymore....have to order everything online, lol.
Reply:I think they were called Fighting Fantasy...........used to read them with my son.........they were great fun
Reply:Whoa! I didn't know there were such books! It sounds pretty cool!
Reply:yes i did love those books when i was a child.i think they were called dungeon and dragons or fighting fantasy,s.
Reply:There were many different types - I had the Choose Your Own Adventure books which were excellent and also some with Dragon in the title (but it wasn't Dungeons and Dragons) and of course the Fighting Fantasy series. There was also a series where you had to have a many sided dice to choose which way to go. I remember the Choose Your Own Adventure ones were excellent but I seemed to die rather early on...... my fave was one called the Forbidden Castle and I could never get into the castle (except the dungeons where I stayed until I rotted).
Reply:Choose your own adventure books! I loved those as a kid, they had huge series of different ones.
Reply:Some of them were the 'Which Way' series.
Reply:Choose your own Adventure--I loved those. I would re-read them over and over picking different scenarios.
Reply:oh yes, i loved those!
Reply:I'm 11 and I love these! They're fab. infact I got one today from the library!
Reply:They sound like great books I have never heard of them but will look at your question again and hope for enlightenment.

No new ones since 1998, though.
Reply:Was it Dungeons and Dragons?
Reply:Yes I remember them. They were brilliant, however you do not really see them now. But if you have sky tv, try some of the documentary channels, you sometimes get to red button, what happens next on them, Egypt for example, you got to open and search the pharaoh's tomb, it was fun.
Reply:Choose Your Own Adventure! I *loved* that series of books! Especially when the options were like, "Tell the cops there are gang members armed with machine guns and flame throwers robbing the convenience store" or "Fight the gang robbers with your bubble gum and shoestring" and telling the cops lead to some grisly, horrible death! One day at work, I wrote all my e-mails choose your own adventure style and made sure everyone eventually chose death! lol
Reply:This was actually a type of book, not a specific series. I used to read the "Give Yourself Goosebumps" collections along with the occasional Animorphs books, though I know there are many others...

I actually found a section on amazon.com that has a bunch of these, if you just do a search for "Plot-your-own stories" you'll see their entire collection (the link I put up doesn't seem to work).

Hope that helps!
Reply:Yes, i loved them.
Reply:They were brilliant. I had one where a bunch of kids were cycling and found camelot. It was a choose your own adventure I think.
Reply:choose your own goosbumps. lol.
Reply:aw amazing i think they were called "goosebumps" :)

loved them!
Reply:i remember the "choose your own adventure", but i always managed to choose poorly and die horrible deaths.
Reply:I know there were a few different series, but the best-known ones were "Choose Your Own Adventure" books. They finished up with well over 100 books in the series, written by many different authors. I think the author that started the series was R.A. Montgomery.

Yes, there was also a "Goosebumps" series like that, and maybe a D%26amp;D series as well -- that one I don't remember.
Reply:I used to choose the wrong answer deliberately just to see all those suckers die!!!
Reply:I think you're thinking of the "Choose your own adventure" series of books. I found some at Barnes and Noble when I was trying to interest my 9 yr old in different types of books.
Reply:haHA! those books from the 90's! lol, I loved those
Reply:they were called "choose your own adventure" books
Reply:Fighting Fantasy

The House of Hell was the best one. There was only one happy ending in it. In the rest you died.

Damn I loved those books.
