My daughter loves the Philip Pullman Dark Materials books. Any ideas of series of books along same lines?

My daughter loves to read and particularly loves fantasy books. She is 15 and I cannot think of any books to order for her. Any suggestions would be gratefully received.

Reply:I love YA fantasy/sci-fi books and they're getting a lot easier to find than they used to be. Below is a list of books that I enjoyed and would have when I was her age if they had been around.

Harry Potter

Chronicals of Narnia

Pendragon series

The Ender's Game/Ender's Shadow series.

The Shadow Children series (first one is Among the Hidden)

Keys to the Kingdom series (first one is Mister Monday)

Hope that helps
Reply:Hi there.

I am guessing that Lord of the Rings you already have and most of the other stuff listed by the other guys is too young (Harry Potter and Artemis Fowl especially). So:-

The Abhorsen trilogy, by Garth Nix. This is a must have, brilliant stories and catches the teen feel better than Pullman!

It gets trickier after that. If Pullman is the man, it will have to be the "Night Watch/Day Watch/Twilight Watch" books by Sergei Lukyanenko. Not easy to get, but absolutely brilliant - she will love these too.

As a wild card, consider Roger Zelazny's "Amber" series - the first 10 make the original series and are collected.

Enjoy, Steve.
Reply:go to www.teenreads.com ...this is a great website to find new books to read....I use bookreporter.com alot...
Reply:Narnia! (Starting with The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe).

At her age, it would be good for her to look things up for herself .
Reply:Eragon and Eldest by Christopher Paolini

The Twilight series by Stephenie Meyer

Stardust and/or Neverwhere by Neil Gaiman

Abarat by Clive Barker

The Wee Free Men series by Terry Pratchett

The Dark Tower series by Stephen King

In addition to those already mentioned.
Reply:i'm sure she would like Eoin Colfer the artemis fowl series,
Reply:Lord of The Rings trilogy - great for ages 12 and up. Harry Potter 1-7, The Hobbit, The Lion the witch and the wardrobe.
Reply:Why not try Septimus Books by Angie Sage ~ they are good as Harry Potter

Tunnels ~ sorry I cannot think of the authors ~ 2 men
Reply:Well, the harry potter ones obviously. How about the Lord of the Rings Trilogy? My daughter loves these and recently she's read Snow White about Arthur Ransome and the Russian Revovlution - but she's only 10, so her tastes may not be the same.
Reply:i don't know how good a reader she is, but the edge chronicle books are really good to read. also the lord of the rings books and philip pullman ones - hogfather is brilliant but is a christmas book (present idea maybe?)
Reply:I know some of these have already been suggested, consider them an added vote ;o)

~ Sabriel by Garth Nix (Abhorson Trilogy)

~ Mr Monday by Garth Nix (Keys to the Kingdom)

~ Pawn of Prophesy by David Eddings (The Belgariad)

~ The Wee Free Men by Terry Pratchett (A Discworld novel)

~ Dragonflight by Ann McCaffrey (Pern)

~ Eragon by Christopher Paolini (Inheritance)

~ The Magicians Nephew by C.S Lewis (The Chronicles of Narnia)
Reply:Someone already said this, but Eoin Colfer's Artemis Fowl series is really great. There are like 5 or 6 books in the series.
Reply:Harry Potter 1-7 and Twilight by Stephenie Meyer. they are both very good. I would more recommend Harry Potter because Twilight has a more romantic side if she doesnt like that.
Reply:I would suggest if she LOVES to read... !

Have her try reading some books from GREGORY MAGUIRE

He wrote "WICKED" The life and times of the wicked witch of the west" (Based on the Wizard of OZ)

He also wrote SON of WITCH

Mirror/Mirror

AND

Confessions of an Ugly Stepsister..

*He writes books about the OTHER or Villians of most beloved classics....

I'm more of a fan of the wicked step-mother than cutsey SNOW WHITE !

Good luck

When I was 15 I LOVED to read in one summer I read OVER 200 books... I know it's nerdy but, it kept me out of trouble !
Reply:I also loved the Phillip Pullman Dark material Series... These are some other trilogies that are also good.

The Abhorsen Trilogy (Preferred this even to the dark material series)

The black magician Trilogy

The Bartimaeus Trilogy

Wind on Fire Trilogy

Currently reading the Keys to the Kingdom bookset... seems good so far
