How many books on your bookshelf have you not read yet?

I have about 60. I find it hard to read if I don't have a very large selection of books to choose from. I can't just go to the bookstore and them come home and read that book. What about you? Do you buy books as you read them or do you stock up like me?

God. I usually am about 20 or so behind. But I am always buying books. I generally keep a pile of things I intend to read before I shelve them. I don't just have one bookshelf. I have an actual library. Pax-C
Reply:Oh I lost count....I try to catch up, but then I go and buy more.

If I saved all the money I spend on buying books, I would have a car by now.
Reply:I stock up on books I know I will enjoy. I don't know what I would do if, suddenly, I didn't have a book to read! I have around 200 books in my cases. I keep all the books I will want to read again, and some I like so much, I can't bear to part with them.

I have about 50 that I haven't read. I guess you could say they're my security blanket.

I don't like to be "book insecure." I don't have to eat, but I HAVE to read. Its' my passion.

No, I'm not a one-book buyer, either. Can you imagine going to a bookstore or a library and not coming out with an armload? =)

I can share this only with an avid book-lover...My biggest fear in life is that when my life ends, I won't have read everything I wanted to read.

Happy reading!
Reply:I envy you for having that luxury. I made an international move, so I had to give up my book collection. Now I only buy books I really want to read and read them right away, but mostly I check them out from the library. I have only one book I haven't read yet.
Reply:About four, but they are fictions book the wife wants to read
Reply:One, I am reading it next month in english.

The Invisble Man to be exact
Reply:I am a self confessed biblioholic. I know I have at least two hundred or so I haven't read. I have several bookcases full. And I have this awful habit that every time I get interested in something new, I have to go out and buy all the books and magazines I can find that look good about that new interest. So I definitely stock up. And of course if I find/try a new author I like, then I have to try and get as many of that author's books as I can find. (Although at least I will try to find older books at a used book store.) I've been this way for more than 30 years! Ask me sometime about our big move 4 1/2 years ago and "thinning" my library. =]
Reply:Like you , I prefer to have a number at home to choose from which also includes books to be read ; at this moment , I have exactly 123 that have not yet been read . Keep on keeping on reading , good luck to you !

Reply:You are not alone. I have about 30 or so. I used to just buy a book at a bookstore and focus on that. But I have found so many at library booksales and thrift stores so inexpensive and in such a variety of genre's that I am getting to be compulsive about it! I also get bored reading just one genre! However, these days my problem is TIME not abundance!
Reply:I actually only have six books on my shelf that I haven't read. They're old books, though, and I actually have no intention of reading them. I don't know where they came from, but I can't bring myself to throw them away. I've tried donating them to the library, but something always happens that keeps me from getting there. sigh

I buy books as I read them, and in between new releases, I reread everything in sight. I have committed a lot of my books to memory, and have even finished one novel and started on another of my own. Not only that, but I have several short stories on fanfiction.net, six that are finished, and three that aren't.
Reply:Not only do I stock up, I horde. It's my one materialistic vice I think and I have maybe 100 books yet to be read. Some were impulsive purchases and I'll probably never read them. I'm not buying as many books these days and am trying to use the library a whole lot more. When I do buy one, I usually dive into it right away.
Reply:I havent bought any books(novels) to read in a while now,. I got 3 actually. Return of the Native by Hardy and Taubat-un-Nasooh by Deputy Nazir Ahmed, its an Urdu Novel.

Then there is Alif Laila which I started reading, a translation by Sir Burton.
