How do you pack books and dvds very lightly to send through the mail?

Due to special circumstances, I have to send my boxes through the mail rather than hauling them in Uhaul truck cross country. What is the best way to pack books and dvds which are known for being heavy?

Through the US Postal Service you can send books and dvds using Media Mail. This is the absolute cheapest way to send books. You can't make books any lighter than they are. It's done by weight, so box up your books (no more than 70 pounds per box!) and take it to the post office to be weighed and make sure to tell them you want to mail it media mail and it's just books inside. You can get delivery confirmation with media mail as well. Media mail can take up to 30 days to be delivered but can come in less time so unless you need your stuff guaranteed by a certain date, It's a very cheap way to send books.

If you are mailing to an international address, you can do a similar type mailing, called M-bag. It is the same but it costs a little more because it's international. You pay for a minimum of 11 pounds whether you have 11 pounds or not, which is like $11 or so. Once it leaves the country it's in the hands of postal system of the country you're sending it to, so it can take a long time.

Reply:%26lt;%26gt;There really isn't any way to make them "lighter." And you will have to use strong, heavy boxes, kraft paper and twine. And you will have to check with USPS about shipping rates and weight limitations. UPS and FedEx will be expensive, too. If you have a lot of books and DVDs, might I suggest you check into a bulk freight service, like a trucking company?

Reply:First of all use plastic bags around the books for small quantity. If they can be neatly stacked you want to use plenty of bubble rap on the bottom of the box, pad the sides and the top b4 closing the box. Better yet is 'popcorn' Styrofoam packing...Sometimes known as peanuts..bottom, leave space around the sides to fill with popcorn..About 1-2 inches..and same at top..Basically all the way around..After taping the box do a full rap of tape all the way around the closures 360..to reinforce it. if you want to make sure to have it arrive intact use packing tape at all edges of the box..as in 45 around the edges...this packing method may cost a few bucks but your valuables will arrive intact...This is the method I used when I worked for a major Gaming co. at the warehouse sending out books and cards... A completely full box of books always got put in a bigger box with popcorn all the way around it..hope this helps..
