What are some good books/web-sites for a total newbie to learn about the basics of chemistry?

I want to teach myself everything I can about chemistry this summer, specifically synthetic chemistry. What are some good books to check out and/or great sites?

Keep in mind, I have virtually _no_ previous chemistry knowledge, but I'm not stupid. I learn fast.

Thanks.

All chemistry leads to biology.

All current advances in chemistry are usually biological. Such as biotech.
