What are some good science fiction or fantasy books?

I like books that feature strange things happening to normal people (Not books based solely on fantsasy lands or different species.) I enjoy books where normal (or at least they think they are normal) people go on journeys or go through odd science fiction happenings.

Any suggestions?

What are some good science fiction or fantasy books?
Silverlock, by John Myers Myers (yes, that is his name.)

The Dragon and the George, by Gordon R Dickson

Anything by Lois McMaster Bujold

Anything by Larry Niven

Anything by David Weber, but especially the Honor Harrington stories

Enjoy.
Reply:Try Old Magic by Marianne Curley, but not if you don't like romance. Well, it's not completely based off of romance, but still.

Also, Twilight, New Moon, and Eclipse by Stephenie Meyer. Definitely don't pick up if you don't like romance, because these are mainly romance. That's all I have with "normal people."
Reply:That pretty much describes most of Dean Koont's books

Try Twightlight eyes or Phantoms
Reply:Pendragon sounds good for you. it doesn't specifically meet your criteria, but I really like Isaac Asimov's books, you should look at them.
Reply:Ender's Game somewhat falls into this category. Also, try Stephen King's books; The Stand and The Dark Tower series are some of the good ones.
Reply:The future histories of Robert Heinlein will please you. Start with the anthology Past Through Tomorrow.
Reply:They're all parts of a series.

Uglies by: Scott Westerfeld

The Door Within by: Wayne Thomas Batson

And, duh, the Harry Potter books by:J.K. Rowling

Molly Moon by: (cant remember first name) Bying

Hope you read and like them!
Reply:Timeline and Jurassic Park, both by Michael Crichton.
Reply:Go to the library and check out some of the books by Clifford Simak.
Reply:Asimov is my favorite. Heinlein is pretty good also.
Reply:Well, Eragon, Eldest, and uhh (forgot the last book) are good. OH, and especially His Dark Materials Trilogy by Phillip Pullman
